Moab, Utah - August 2006
When I first starting researching the H3 I signed up on
an online Hummer forum. A group of owners on that site
had just come back from a trip to Moab. I was looking
through all the photos and videos they were posting and it
became a mission to get out to Moab. Well I finally
made it out there. We spent a week doing some amazing
trails and taking in some absolutely incredible scenery.
By the end of the week there were eight Hummers in our
group. We ran Fins & Things, Seven Mile Rim, Klondike
Bluffs, Steel Bender, Hell's Gate, and Porcupine Rim.
And of course, we also did Potato Salad Hill and Lion's
Back. Full trip report coming soon.
The Rubicon - July 2006
The Rubicon Trail is perhaps the most
famous 4x4 trail in the country. It is located in the
Sierra Nevada mountains west of Lake Tahoe and offers an
amazing combination of hardcore rock crawling and beautiful
alpine scenery. This would be the most challenging
trip we had undertaken. We enlisted the help of some
guides from a local 4x4 club and headed up for a couple days
on the trail. We came in the Loon Lake entrance,
across the Granite Bowl to Wentworth Springs. The next
day we went from Wentworth to the Little Sluice. On
day three we heading back out to Loon Lake. This was
an absolutely amazing experience. The trail was
challenging, the company was entertaining, and we learned a
lot about the premier 4x4 trail in Northern California and
the issues and work involved to keep it open in the future.
Upcoming Trips:
Those of us who went on the last Rubicon trip planned on going back to finish
the trail. We just didn't realize it was going to be so soon. Coming
up in October, Hummers on the Rubicon - Part Two.
Since the rain and snow will soon be hitting the Sierras, its time to head
down to Southern California for some desert wheeling. Trips to Anza-Borreago
and Mojave Road are scheduled for this fall/winter. We may also get one
last crack at the mountains. Stay tuned.....
